Fox Gives Band’s MySpace URL To Fox TV Show

Filed under: Uncategorized — billgatesretirement @ 4:47 pm

On the other side When there are disputes over who gets to own a domain name, they go to an independent panel to determine the outcome. A lot of the results are somewhat random (and not always that intelligent), but at least there’s a process. When it comes to MySpace pages, it appears you’re entirely at the whim of News Corp. and Fox. Take, for example, the case of an independent band from Louisiana called Bones. They (like so many other indie bands) had been using MySpace to help build up their fan-base, collecting over 2100 friends in about two years of using the service. And then, the other day with no warning, it appears that Fox simply took over the site and gave it to their own TV show, also named Bones. Of course, the good news is that there was a loud outcry from some of the band’s fans, and MySpace eventually gave them back their page — but just the fact that Fox/MySpace would even think it was a reasonable thing to do in the first place suggests they’re not quite as in touch with the MySpace user base as they pretend to be. And if you would like to know breakthrough Analysis: Enterprise Search: Time To Get Serious
(TechWeb) TechWeb - The rise of Google, Yahoo and specialized search providers has radically altered our perception of information access, yet enterprise search implementations haven’t kept up with the transformation in the consumer world. On a that note psst! Wikis Can Be Edited. Yes, By Anyone It seems like wikis are becoming the new “blogs” this year. Remember a few years back when just about every company or organization felt the need to launch a blog because that’s what companies did? This was even if they didn’t have a reason to blog, or people who were interested in blogging. It seems like the same thing is happening with wikis nowadays. As the British government continues its often misguided attempts at embracing new technologies, apparently the secretary of state for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs decided it would be a good idea to set up a wiki about “environmental contracts,” naively assuming it would lead to a high level of debate and discussion about the topic. Instead, as most of you would probably expect, it was defaced. Not just that, but being a political topic, people used the wiki to simply complain about such contracts, rather than “debate” them. With all that happening, the British gov’t minister who put up the wiki has shut it down. It’s not entirely clear what people are thinking about when they put up such sites. Wikis are good for certain things — mainly collaborative efforts toward a certain goal. They are not about debate and discussion for the most part — especially in the political arena. Having the government embrace new technology is a good thing, but they should at least learn what the technology is about before they embrace it. read on to check out what awaits you

What a wonderfull idea would UK Regulators Kill Off AM/FM Radio To Make Better Use Of Spectrum A year and a half ago, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that UK telecom regulatory agency, Ofcom, was moving forward with a plan to make a much more open marketplace for spectrum. Traditionally, regulatory agencies have simply assigned spectrum for certain purposes. That is, they’ll designate a certain spectrum for TV or radio or broadband or cellular communications. In recent years, they then would let companies bid on spectrum, but only to be used for the pre-designated purpose. Ofcom realized how inefficient that idea is, and claimed that the new policy would be to simply auction off the spectrum and allow it to be put to use in whatever manner made the most sense. That’s a huge step forward. However, even knowing that, it’s a bit surprising to hear that Ofcom is now considering pulling the plug on AM and FM radio in order to put that spectrum to better use. Apparently, the regulators aren’t shy in saying they believe traditional radio is a dying medium, and there’s little point in prolonging its suffering when the spectrum could be used for much better purposes, including radio replacements. That’s quite a statement, and not the sort of thing you’d expect from regulators — but once again, Ofcom seems to be taking a pretty forward-thinking stance.Did you know that Make means the style or manner in which a thing is made: disliked the make of my coat. read on to check out what awaits you
