around the corner While newspapers aren’t in as bad a shape as some would have you believe, they still are having trouble figuring out how to deal with this internet thing. The latest is that a bunch of newspapers have decided that if one bit of old media (newspapers) isn’t enough, why not two? That’s right, they’re going to start shipping CDs with the morning newspaper, sort of like computer magazines from a decade or so ago. These CDs will include music and movie previews, as they try to generate that additional multimedia experience. Of course, for most users, these discs will end up similar to AOL’s free CDs: in the garbage dump. If this content is so valuable, and is going to be viewed on a computer anyway, why not just put it online? Forcing it onto a CD is just an attempt to come up with a solution that the newspapers can say “competes” with the internet, rather than just better embracing the internet. My friends also told me that schwarzenegger Hacking Claims Crumbling Like A Bunch Of Girlie Men When news that a tape of California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger had been secretly leaked, we were suspicious of the argument that somehow hacking was involved; it seemed much more likely that the governor’s office was trying to obfuscate the issue. When it was revealed that Schwarzenegger’s gubernatorial opponent, Phil Angelides, was behind the leak, the Angelides campaign said that the file was available on a public server, and that no hacking was involved. Now, a California radio DJ is corroborating this, saying that the site’s been public for some time. So maybe there is a scandal after all: the governor’s office has poor security practices — though that’s been obvious from the beginning.Did you know that Hacking means a blow made by hacking. Wal-Mart’s MySpace Clone Gone, Missed By Nobody
This is also common It was pretty obvious from the outset that Wal-Mart’s attempt to create a MySpace-like social-networking site was a non-starter. The G-rated site with limited functionality had all the makings of a politician wearing a backwards baseball cap in a bid to win the youth vote. So it’s no surprise at all that the project has been abandoned. It’s not clear that the site ever had any users, though the company apparently tried propagating the site with fake profiles of hip kids wearing Wal-Mart gear. The dead giveaway was that the kids were talking about Wal-Mart clothes in their profiles. The failure doesn’t mean that it’s silly to use social networking to promote retail. There’s obviously a major social component to how young people make their purchases, and retailers would be wise to keep experimenting with ways to tap into that. And so for future reference, trying to trick kids with phony sites that are little more than marketing ploys doesn’t work too well. Please check this out aT&T launches live broadband TV service

Online Predators Less Of A Problem; It’s Your Kids Friends To Watch Out For
around the corner For all of the recent fear mongering over MySpace about “predators” going after kids, which has led to Congress pushing legislation to ban social networking sites (and plenty of other sites) in schools, you’d think they’d at least have a bit of evidence that these kinds of sites really are a problem. Turns out that’s difficult, since it’s not actually true. A new study shows that fewer youngsters are being solicited by predators online and those that are know enough to completely ignore or brush off the approaches. In other words, educating kids how to deal with online predators, and to recognize that you can’t trust everyone online seems to be pretty damn effective so far. One other interesting (if not surprising) finding from the study: kids are much more likely to receive online porn from their peers, rather than some random predator. In other words, just as has happened for ages, kids get their hands on some porn and pass it on to friends. So why are so many folks trying to shut down these social networks again?. . Also you can check out this new memo To Banks: In Case You Missed The First Memo, Change Your ATMs’ Default Passwords Last month, we wrote about the story making the rounds showing how easily some ATMs could be reprogrammed and set to dispense more money than they should because banks and ATM owners never bothered to change the machines’ default passwords — passwords which were easily found in the ATMs’ manual online. JimH writes in to point out a story from Bristol, England, where people discovered an ATM dispensing double the amount of money they requested (via The Register). Word quickly traveled around, leading to three-hour lines at the machine, while an identical but properly configured ATM beside it sat unused. Local restaurants, bars and liquor stores said they did a roaring trade as people spent their “free” money — but the bank has a record of all the withdrawals and says it will chase down everyone that took advantage of the broken machine. It’s not clear if the ATM in question was one of the same models discussed last month, or indeed just how the machine came to be misconfigured, but this seems like quite an interesting coincidence. In any case, if you run a bank, it might not be a bad idea to check your ATMs and ensure they’re not still using the default password.Did you know that Default means a situation or condition that obtains in the absence of active intervention. this is worth your time

That’s settled today as Lockyer filed felony charges against Dunn and four others, including HP’s senior lawyer Kevin Hunsaker and some of the investigators who took part in the spying process, pretending to be various reporters and board members in order to obtain their phone records. While Dunn has continually failed to accept responsibility or even recognize that what she did was wrong, it may make some wonder if her role really deserves criminal charges. She did want to plug the leak, and it does seem like she either did not care about the means used or made it clear she didn’t want to know. However, criminal charges still seem a bit extreme. She may be guilty of allowing this to happen under her watch, in part due to her own obsession with plugging the leaks, but it’s not clear that deserves felony charges directly. It was definitely an ethical lapse, and she probably deserved to lose her job, but the possibility of six years in jail seems like somewhat excessive punishment.Did you know that Members means the penis.
